Moo

I'm not really sure what sound the zebra or cheetah makes, but animal prints are going to be very fun this season. With the high holy days coming up in less than a month, I really have to get rolling with the fruit of the week. Earlier in the summer, I saw the dragon fruit. It has a bright pink outside with these green "things" that almost look like leaves coming out of it. When I first saw them, in the US-for I have had the privilege to eat one in Israel, I was a little reluctant to spend a whopping 7 dollars on this fruit. 2 days ago, they were selling 5 for 5 dollars, so I bought one. The inside looks like a kiwi, but it's white--very unexpected. As far as taste goes, I will give it a 4 on the taste-o-meter. There was nothing to it, it just has very little flavor, perhaps that's attributed to the fact it is out of season? I'm not sure, I guess I'll wait til next year for a good dragon fruit.

Yee-ha!

You know what's soooo last year, and will not be coming back? Cowboy boots! I admit, i thought they were ok last year, and spent the entire winter looking for a funky pair in flat, but all i came out with were these insanely over-priced ones that had a floral print, some animal hair and metallic piping, i had no choice but to return them. Every year i say that Uggs are so old and won't ever come back, but once experiencing a winter in Uggs, i can't imagine my life without them. So i say stick with the Uggs if you wanna spend a bajillion dollars on boots.

Peek-a-boo

Peep-toe shoes! Not doubt, a must have for the fall-but a couple of rules that should be followed(well 2 at least). I know, it will start getting colder outside, but no matter how frum you are, they are never to be worn with nude tights, and also, when wearing peeps, make sure that you have a somewhat neat pedi on your big toes. I find that red looks the best, currently the color on my toes are a pinkish looking salmon, and it doesn't really do the trick when it comes to peeps, there is just something about getting a pedi in bright red!

Don't Forget to Floss

Houndstooth! Maybe I just like houndtooth because I just got a super-hot houndstooth dress. No matter what the size of the squares, houndstooth is gonna rock this fall! Do mani-pedi places carry navy blue nailpolish, and would people use it? i find that i only stick with shades and tints of red, and go as natural as possible. i think navy nail polish may be a little bit creepy at first, but who doesn't love a nice shiny, patent leather-esque navy on their fingertips?

True Blues

My fall prediction is Navy blue. Navy blue leather shoes, bags and belts. Navy blue sweaters, tweads, and knecklaces. Navy could be the next black this year! It looks fab with gold or silver. I am not a fan of navy and black. It is way to dull and it just does not blend well. You can add basically any color with navy; yellow, pink, orange, red, brown, white, cream...I am still trying to figure out what shades of green would go well with navy. But I predict a lot of navy this coming season!

1 Hue or two?

So we went to get our nails done the other day. Alison knew about this little cheap place over on Houston St. right by the bridge. It only cost $15 for a pedi and a mani. I was picking out my "color" when she was choosing her "colors." She was getting one color on her toes and a different on on her hands. This is something that I never thought of doing because it doesn't match. Perhaps I have done it maybe 4 times, but not on a regular basis. I am still exploring how I feel about this. I think tomorrow when I go to get a pedi and mani I will try 2 different colors on my toes and hands.

Speaking of nailpolish I thought coral was going to be a big color this summer season. But it is hard to find a coral that doesn't look too cantaloupe-ish or bubble gum-ish. I think tomorrow I'll try a new shade.

Hang-up

I feel that this is something that needs to be addressed, something most people don't even realize, but it's repercussions can be tragic. Hangers on the floor. While shopping I always notice hangers on the floor, andI always bend down to pick up the ones that are in my way, because there have been instances where I stepped on a hanger on the floor, and I lose control as my foot slides again the floor via the hanger. Since I've been shopping almost forever and have been aware of this problem for a number of years, I am set. When i see a hanger, I know not to step on it, and just pick it up. However, there are many folks out there who are not aware of the dangers of stepping on hangers on smooth surfaces. So it is our duty to spread awareness of this issue and to pick up the hangers we see on the floors, making our shopping experiences and that of those around us much safer.

Going, Going, GONE!

Leggings! They are everywhere. This on of those things you thought would be a staple this season, but it is a bajillion degrees in the Chelsea area of NYC, and all you see are leggings everywhere! Some basics about leggings: they should only be worn when it is cold out, and if you must wear those lovely leopard printed ones that I've been seeing way too much of, at least wear it with a mini. C'mon! Girls were walking around in their leggings down to their ankles and dresses that hit mid-calf. And lastly, leggings should never be worn by men. Ew.

Get Ready For the Primaries

For the record, I'm fully aware that "be" should have been capitalized in the title of the previous post. Today's observation is primary colors. Bold hues of red, blue and yellow thrown in with black a white are going to be huge, so keep your eyes open for those. As for the fruit of the week, I'm not ready to call it a top pick, because i have yet to try them, but i am very curious about those green figs. They look very yellow, but they are on almost every street corner in Chinatown, so a shechiyanu may be in order by the end of the week.

A Good Pair of Shoes Never Need to be Broken Into

Many of our fashion predictions are based on observations we made, for example, Gap has a lot of gray clothing this fall, so picture a charcoal gray sweater, a light heather gray skirt and perhaps some kind of tweed peep-toe, which have yet to be found. Also, there's been a lot of patent leather, not just shoes, but ginormous headbands, they tend to hurt after about 30 minutes, but they look very sleek.
after an afternoon of shopping at a local street fair, we really learned what is going out, like those ridiculously big bulky necklaces, and those hideous crocheted ponchos, they should not be sold-ever, not even at a street fair.
in a addition to cool clothing, let's move onto produce. The pick of the week are lychee nuts. They can be easily found anywhere in Chinatown, and are in season right now. lychee nuts aren't actually nuts, it's more like a fruit, you peel it, eat the fruity part and dispose of the nut, they are great and about 4 lbs for 10 dollars!
Try something new-it'll be fun

Our Very First Blog

So last night we were hanging out late at night reading People magazine picking out our favorite dresses of 2005 and we began talking about our fashion predictions for fall 2006. We started discussing our predictions amongst ourselves and then we decided to have a blog discussing our fashion ideas. Soon after, we realized that just talking about fashion would be too short-lived. But having a blog is fab anyway!
